Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here, taking a step toward feeling better.
I have over 15 years of experience working with children, teens, and families from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds in Chevy Chase, MD and the greater Washington, DC area. I began as a high-school teacher, and the large unmet need for mental-health services in schools drew me into social work and clinical practice.
I’ve provided child and adolescent therapy in elementary, middle, and high schools in Chicago, DC, and now Maryland. My work addresses depression, anxiety, ADHD, executive functioning, emotion regulation, challenging behaviors, trauma, grief and loss, social skills, and stress management.
I also know kids and families thrive when the adults in their lives feel supported, so I’m equally dedicated to individual counseling for adults. My adult-therapy focus includes anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress management, relationships, self-esteem, and trauma.
Each client’s needs are unique, and I tailor treatment using trauma-informed care, play therapy, and animal-assisted interventions.
I hold graduate degrees in both teaching and social work. Outside the office you’ll find me walking my dogs—Rogue and Loki—horseback riding, or convincing family and friends to play board games.

Animal-Assisted Interventions
Rock Creek Forest Counseling is proud to offer sessions with Rogue and Loki, our Golden-Retriever therapy dogs, right here in Chevy Chase, MD. Rogue and Loki serve as calm, reassuring partners and, when appropriate, active participants in Animal-Assisted Play Therapy® (AAPT) for children, teens, and adults.
Rachel is a Certified Animal-Assisted Play Therapist®, and Rogue and Loki are approved therapy dogs through the International Institute for Animal-Assisted Play Therapy. Learn more about our Animal-Assisted Play Therapy services →
